Welcome to the SA blog!

This week, our friendly SA members will be 'crashing' into your lectures to conduct speeches about the Service Ambassadors. Briefly, Service Ambassadors, or SA for short, is a private organization catered to promote service excellence for the three hospitality courses (HTM, LRM, CCM).

If you're interested, there will be a SA booth set up in school just to answer your doubts and provide more information regarding Service Ambassadors:

Date: 26th-28th April 2011
Time: 11-2pm
Venue: Business Concourse

There's a SA promotional video available at the righthand side of the blog home (below the link to download the application form). Take a look to find out more about SA.

Feel free to grab an application form either at the righthand side of this blog home or from our SA members when they're conducting the short presentation during lectures. Application forms will also be available at the SA booth. These application forms are to be submitted at business school, BS26-05-11. Drop it into a box stating 'SA Application Form'.

Closing date for the submission of application forms is 4th May 2011, by 1700hours.

Interviews will be conducted! The dates are as following:
9th May 2011 (Monday): 6-9pm
10th May 2011 (Tuesday): 4-9pm
11th May 2011 (Wednesday): 5-9pm

We will send you an email for te interview timeslot by 6th May 2011 (Friday). Please check your mail or at our blog.

SATS Inflight Catering (Gate hold room event)

We are proud to be working hand-in-hand with SATS Inflight Catering Gate Hold room event (27 March 2011) for SIA First flight to Sau Paulo, Brazil. It was certainly an enriching one for our members we participated!

From that event, some of our juniors learnt that holding a tray with 4 glasses of drinks may seems very easy but actually it's not! Trust us! It certainly takes skills, which it's one of the key thing that they have learnt that night. It sure was also a test of endurance!

Being able to walk around the gate hold room and serve the many different passengers is pretty interesting as this is not one of the things you’ll normally do.

The best part of the event would be … getting to eat delicious food provided by SATS! Their food is really 2 thumbs up! Getting to enjoy the experience of serving in the gate hold room and even getting a TASTE of the food, what’s not to love?

Tung Lok Banquet @ Istana

Service Ambassadors was given an opportunity to serve at a prestigious event at The Istana (10 March 2011). It was banquet event hosted by His Excellency, President S.R. Nathan to welcome the Philippines newly elected President Benigno Aquino III.

Serving at a state banquet is not an easy job as the level of service required is very high. Everything had to follow a certain order and we even had practice it before! Each server only served 2 guests compared to regular banquet where we had to serve an entire table. However, it did not make the job any easier.

Some of dishes were pre-heated we had to carry the hot plates with our bare hands. Nevertheless, we still had to uphold professionalism. With a smile, we delivered the dishes and warned the guest of the hot plates. At the end of the event, we was glad to see the smiles on the faces of our guests. We truly enjoyed the event and we felt that it had widened our horizons of what service is really about.

Opening of Grand Park Orchard

This event is definitely awesome not only because we get to enjoy delicious desserts but also gained much experience! Serving cocktails is not an easy job because you have to learn to balance the champagne and wine glasses. But once you get the hang of it, it is a piece of cake!

Dear SA members,

It's time for our SA CHALET!!!
Details are as follows:

Date: 15-16 September 2010.
Time: 3pm onwards
Venue: Pasir Ris Costa Sands Resort (Unit No. TBC closer to the chalet)
Bring: $8 for SA members, clothes (if your staying over), anything fun you would like to share or do (eg games, snacks etc) and most importantly, YOURSELF!xD!

Do remember to confirm your attendance and acknowledge the email sent to you by 10th September 2010 latest 12pm, regarding the chalet.

We really hope that you will all be able to join us.

It's the annual Service Ambassadors Handover Ceremony. The details are as follows:

Date: 17 September 2010
Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm
Venue: Temasek Business School, LT 18, Level 2

Dress Code:
1. New Members: Course Polo Shirt, Jeans, Covered shoes.
2. Current Members: SA Polo Shirt, Jeans, Covered shoes.
(*strictly no slippers, sandals etc.)

Grooming:
1. For Guys: Hair to be above collar.
2. For Girls: Please tie up your hair and ensure that it is neat and tidy.
Hair to be black in colour. (No dyed hair)
Please make sure you look presentable and abide by these grooming standards.

Please take note, for new members who have not paid the membership fee, you will need to bring S$24. It will be collected upon registration.

As this is a COMPULSORY event, everyone is expected to turn up. Attendance will be taken upon arrival.
Absence without valid reason may result in you being banned from certain jobs or events.

What Really Matters Student Leaders Seminar 2010

There will be a free seminar kindly organised by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
This seminar will equip youths with lifeskills to navigate life challenges, reflect on our values and life goals, and provide advice on developing happy and stable relationships. Mike Cope, a renowned U.S. speaker will be conducting the seminar.

We have 20 seats reserved for you, so do sign up! Since it will take place during the holidays, why not take this opportunity to learn more?!
It is on First-come-first-serve basis. More details are stated below:

SA AY 10/11 Orientation at the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa

New SA members are excited and nervous about the orientation (19 June 2010), firstly because – WOW. How cool is it to have your orientation held at Sentosa? Secondly, exactly how many people do you know out of the 42 people selected for SA this year, so that meant a lot of unfamiliar faces and stepping out of their comfort zone to make new friends.

Everyone took off at Sentosa Express to the TAS, where they were being briefed about the day’s activities and broken down into small groups. They also had some ice breaking games and off the members went for an amazing race around Sentosa!

For the Amazing Race, the members were given clues to direct them to certain places, and had to finish a given task at each location (Let’s just say some of the task they did made heads turn!). Everyone had a sportsman sprit, running like mad, trying to complete all of the tasks given within a time limit! It was certainly a good way to explore Sentosa as well!

Mid-semester tests are finally over and a major SA Event is coming! This post is regarding the upcoming SA Orientation 2010. The event is compulsory.

Here are the details regarding the event:

Event: Service Ambassadors Orientation 2010
Place: Tourism Academy @ Sentosa
Date: 19 June 2010, Saturday
Reporting/meeting time: 8.45am @ Sentosa Express, Level 3 of VivoCity
Approximate ending time: 5pm
Amount-to-bring: Bring a total of $24 (new-comers) / $6 (current members)
Attire: Dark Coloured T-shirt, shorts or berms, shoes (as you will be running around.)
You may want to bring an extra set of clothes to change into after the event

Please send in your replies to the respective emailers who emailed you by Saturday, 5th June 12pm (deadline has been extended) irregardless whether you are attending or not. Last point to note for those that cannot make it, only reasons such as family matters/overseas will be accepted. Failure to attend without valid reasons would be immediately removed from SA. Dear Hospitality Freshies!

A warm welcome to Temasek Polytechnic's hospitality courses! Thank you for your interest in Service Ambassadors when we held our recruitment drive a week ago.The purpose of this email is to inform you guys about the upcoming interview information. Please download the attachment titled SA Interview 2010 Timeslots on the right and look carefully at which interview timeslot you are allocated to and do inform your friends whose names are here, but unfortunately didn't receive any email.

The names are sorted according to courses and in alphabetical format. Please take note that the interviews are conducted over 2 days, at different venues.

Details you may wish to take note:
Date: 10 - 11 May 2010, Monday and Tuesday
Time: 4-6pm (For both days)
Venue: As mentioned in excel sheet.
Dress code: Strictly Smart Casual

Apart from that, if you can't make it for your allocated slot due to lessons, you may attend the other interview slots available, but, however, you have to inform me.

IMPORTANT:
If your timetable does not allow you to attend any of the interview timeslots on either 10 May or 11 May 2010 from 4-6pm, you are welcomed to come for the interview at 6pm on 10 May 2010, at BS26-05-08 (AV Room). The only reason we accept is due to clash of tutorials or lectures during the interview. Please inform me as well if you are coming after 6pm.

Monin Mocktail Workshop!

We're glad to bring you, Monin Mocktail Workshop this November!
Monin is the leading brand of premium syrups for professionals, offering the widest range of flavours, together with a large assortment of exclusive liquers as well as a range of Gourmet Sauces. These syrups are used in the making of cocktails, flavoured coffees and teas, milkshakes, smoothies as well as cooking too!

Here are the details with regards to the SA Orientation Phase 2:

This event is compulsory. I repeat once again, compulsory. Below is the information you need and some of the stuff in which you will need to bring along.

Event: Service Ambassadors Orientation Phase 2.
Place: Tourism Academy @ Sentosa
Date: 7 October 2009, Wednesday
Reporting/meeting time: 8.45am @ Harbourfront MRT Control Station
Approx ending time: 4pm
Money issue: Bring $3 to pay for your lunch.
Attire: Dark Coloured T-shirt, shorts or berms, shoes (as you will be running around.)
- Do bring an extra set of clothes and slippers/shoes along with you.
Diet preferences: Please email svc_sengwei@yahoo.com.sg with regards to your diet preferences as we are catering packed lunch for you. E.g. Vegetarian or Halal

I would like to take this opportunity to inform all of you about the committment in which you have to abide for each semester. You will have to attend at least 2 events or job opportunities to fulfil your status as a member. The executive committee will be reviewing your status again after this event and those that did not fulfil this rule will then be dealed accordingly.

As is a compulsory event, everyone is expected to turn up. Attendance will be taken upon arrival.

Please note that you can collect your SA Shirts on Friday, 28 August 2009, from 2pm to 4.30pm outside LT 18.As for those who are unable to make it for the collection of SA shirt on 28 August, you will be able to collect it during the Handover Ceremony. For those that had not made payment of $20 for SA T-shirt and membership fee, please do so at the registration counter on the day itself.

SATS catering tour

Yesterday, went for sats kitchen tour!
It was damn fun and nice. we are all awed by the machineries and the gadgets

The things there are so machinerised that everyone went ooo-ahhh!
[idk whether there's such word as machinerised LOL]

These are some pictures i took, cos no pictures are allowed to be taken during the tour.

Brian, the one who brought us around the tour, was explaining to us using the miniature model of the building.

We saw how everyone worked 24/7 to produce around 2 million food for 100+ SIA flights per day.
It's totally amazing.

Moreover, we went to visit different kitchens they have, and tried their CHOCOLATES! ups for yummy chocos! :D

Last but not least, they still have a stimulated aircraft designed to test food as thou on the plane. It's the one and only stimulated aircraft in the world.

I must say, singapore is amazing. Food are also checked everyday, and there are health measures being taken note of.

A330 Inaugural Flight to Brisbane
Dated: 29th March 2009

It's similar to the A380 job scope.
This job opportunity allows us to learn alot of things, while having fun with the staffs and chefs there.

We took a group picture together at the end (:

We helped up with setting up of the food and drinks etc
and waited for the passengers to arrive to the gateway

Upon arrival, we served drinks to our passengers and attend to their needs.
We cleared their plates and of cause, not forgetting our smiles.

At the end of the day, we had the buffet spread to ourselves and helped with the tearing down of the place :D

The staffs and chefs are really friendly, making the working environment very enjoyable, lively, and pleasant to work in.

All of us enjoyed working with SATS catering :D

National Healthcare Group Polyclinics is having a Family Day event for their staffs on 15 November. It is a day for their staffs to relax and enjoy with their family and friends. There will be alot of fun and games [e.g. reverse bungee jumping, movie screening] catered to them.

ITB ASIA 2008

Greetings!

We have finally received updates on ITB Asia 2008. In case you guys may have forgotten, ITB Asia is going to be Asia's biggest tourism trade show and it will be held for the first time in Singapore in October (which is already here!). We sent out an email asking for interested participants to be helpers during this trade show which encompasses duties such as packing of goodie bags, providing front-line service to trade show visitors, etc.

As you guys showed interest in your replies to the first email, I have sent the following update to you first and I require you all to reconfirm your ability to commit for this job opportunity!

The following paragraphs will include more detailed information of what you can expect to experience and do during ITB Asia.

Event: ITB Asia 2008
Venue: Suntec City, Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre
Date: 19 - 24 October 2008
Working Hours: 8am - 7pm (Full day shift), 8am - 2pm (Half day shift)
Renumeration: $60 (Full day shift), $30 (Half day shift)

Qualities expected from you:
Applicants should cultivate a friendly attitude and appearance, be fluent in English, competent regarding the city of Singapore and Suntec Convention, and should help them with:

1. Information services (hostesses / hosts)
2. Delegate Badging registration
3. Trade visitor registration and sales
4. Admission checks at entrances (usher)
5. Ushers to direct delegates

Regarding the requirement for participants to be able to commit on all days of this event, we have negotiated with the management and they have allowed us to roster you depending on when you are able to help out. This means that daily commitment can be made more flexible and more people can join this event! Therefore, please do ask around within your fellow SAs whether they would like to change their mind and participate in this event as we need as many people as possible (about 50).

A special compulsory briefing will be held before the event to train you prior to your participation in ITB Asia. The date of this briefing will be confirmed soon.

FHA 2008 was FABULOUS!

Though, some of us had went with school separately, going with SA is ALWAYS FUN!

We went rounds (take note of the "s") to check out what the stalls have to offer. We had tried quite a lot of food. Some are delicious while some totally-cannot-make-it!

Despite missing out on the Dream Team Competition, we had FUN!

This was the culprit that gained our curiosity.

Let's check it out man!

It's the MINI BOWLING! You don't need proper shoes, don't need to cut your precious nails and you CAN PLAY INTERESTING GAME, besides the standard bowling, that is incorporated in the system. DOUBLE FUN!! We got to try it before its launch at Downtown East! COOL! (you know where's the next ideal SA outing.)

Hey Service Ambassadors!
